Mykhailo Basarab, a political scientist, believes that Russia wants to legitimize the occupied part of Ukraine and make the world come to terms with it, so that  Putin would be able to mediate over Ukrainian food supplies.

He expressed his opinion with Espreso.

"Putin is well aware that the cessation of food supplies from Ukraine will lead not only to famine, but as a negative consequence, also socio-political processes in countries in need of Ukrainian food. These are usually unstable countries, Africa and Asia. Putin will be the one who started the war against Ukraine and now hinders the export of Ukrainian food. And Western countries can feel the consequences of such processes," said the political scientist.

Politicians from different countries are already noting a possible famine that will lead to pressure from migration waves in Europe. People from Central Asia and Africa will flee to successful European countries.

"Putin is well aware that this issue will sooner or later arise, and he will have to answer for what is happening now. Sanction pressure is already quite strong on Russia and on Putin himself, but this pressure may increase from Western powers. One explanation for why Russia is trying to offer Ukrainian food supplies is a desire to make money on Ukrainian exports, but if Russia manages to act as a mediator, it will legally make money on stolen Ukrainian grain," he explained.
