Putin signs law on Russia's denunciation of agreement with Ukraine on Azov Sea and Kerch Strait
Vladimir Putin has signed a decree according to which Russia withdraws from the agreement on cooperation with Ukraine in the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait
This information is mentioned in the document published on the Kremlin's website.
"The head of the Russian state has signed the federal law "On the denunciation of the agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait," the Russian leader’s decree says.
According to the document, the law comes into force on the day of publication.
The accompanying materials indicate that Russia believes that "Ukraine has lost the status of a coastal state" in relation to the waters in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. Putin believes that after the fake referendum and the attempted annexation of these Ukrainian regions, the shores of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait have become exclusively Russian.

On February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine denounced all treaties with Russia on the Azov Sea. These include the agreement between Ukraine and Russia on cooperation in the use of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait, as well as the agreement on the establishment of the Black Sea Naval Cooperation Group. Thus, Ukraine withdrew from all agreements with Russia on the Azov Sea.
