Putin seeks halt to U.S. weapons supplies to Ukraine in ceasefire proposal with Trump
Russian leader Vladimir Putin is said to be demanding a suspension of all arms supplies to Ukraine as a condition for agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump
Russian leader Vladimir Putin is demanding a suspension of all weapons deliveries to Ukraine as part of a ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The two leaders are set to discuss the situation by phone on Tuesday, with a major focus on a 30-day truce, which Kyiv has already expressed willingness to accept. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the call is expected to take place between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Moscow time.
Putin, who met with a Trump envoy last week, has made halting arms supplies a condition for agreeing to the ceasefire, the outlet says, citing a senior European official and several sources in Moscow familiar with the Kremlin's position. Peskov did not respond to requests for comment, and the White House’s National Security Council also declined to comment, Bloomberg adds.
Although Russia seeks to halt all weapon deliveries to Ukraine, its primary goal appears to be halting U.S. aid altogether, according to two sources in Moscow. However, the European official expressed significant reluctance to accept this demand, noting that such a move would allow Russia to rearm during a cessation of hostilities, while Ukraine would be prevented from doing so.
