Putin claims Polish lands were gift from Stalin. Russian ambassador summoned to Polish foreign ministry
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has said that Poland and Lithuania are planning to occupy Ukraine, and called the western territories of Poland a gift from Joseph Stalin
He said this at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, TASS reports.
"The western territories of present-day Poland are Stalin's gift to the Poles. Have our friends in Warsaw forgotten about this? We will remind them," Putin said.
At the same time, he said that the Poles are dreaming of seizing the western regions of Ukraine.
"As for the Polish leaders, they are probably hoping to form some kind of coalition under the NATO umbrella and directly intervene in the conflict in Ukraine in order to "tear off" a bigger piece for themselves, to regain what they consider to be their historical territories - today's western Ukraine," Putin launched a propaganda narrative.
"It is well known that they also dream of Belarusian lands," he added.
Poland’s reaction
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the Russian ambassador would be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because of Vladimir Putin's words.
"Stalin was a war criminal responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Poles. The historical truth is not subject to dispute. The Russian ambassador will be summoned to the Foreign Ministry," Morawiecki wrote on Twitter.
