Putin meets China's top diplomat, shares expectations of Xi Jinping's visit

During a meeting with Wang Yi, Chinese President Xi Jinping's top diplomatic advisor,Russian leader Vladimir Putin said he expected a new impetus in relations between Moscow and Beijing

Russian media report that Putin received Wang Yi, who is the head of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee's Foreign Affairs Office, in the Kremlin on February 22.  

The Russian president said that international relations have become more acute than before the collapse of the bipolar system and added that he was looking forward to the visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping scheduled for the spring.

“Of course, we are waiting for the Chinese president to visit Russia. We agreed on this earlier. We are implementing our plans for personal meetings, which will give an additional impetus to the development of our relations,” Putin said.

Wang Yi noted that relations between Russia and China are not subject to pressure from third countries.

“The relations between Russia and China are not directed against third countries, but they are not subject to pressure from third countries,” China’s top diplomat said.
