Putin chooses the worst possible option
Russia had two chances to exit the current large-scale war, if not as full victors, then somewhere between the points of "victory" and "partial victory" or "partial victory" and "draw"
The first opportunity was at the end of spring 2022, the second — at the end of autumn of the same year.
But Putin is known for always choosing the worst option. Instead of getting away with the loot and keeping his own, he decided to push his victim further, despite his own losses.
The third (possibly last) chance to remain "with his own" has now been given to him by Trump. The window opened on January 20 and closes on May 9. Theoretically, Putin still has time for a mega move right under his "victory" holiday.
However, something tells me that Putin has decided to reject Trump's proposal and go for a new round of escalation — until the end of autumn 2025.
So, if no unexpected words about peace are spoken in the presence of his suzerain — Emperor Xi — it will mean one thing.
That Russia has decided to continue the war until the end. Its end. Inevitable.
