Putin attacks Kyiv with Kinzhals during African leaders' visit to humiliate their peoples - military expert Musiienko
According to Oleksandr Musiienko, the director of the Center for Military Legal Studies, Putin's intention in sending an African "landing party" to Kyiv is to demonstrate that he is not internationally isolated
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Let me remind you that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited European countries, followed by his visit to Japan for the G7 summit, where he issued statements and communiqués supporting Ukraine and condemning Russia. And Putin continues to be internationally isolated, so the African "landing party" in Kyiv is the only response he can give to the decisions made by the G7, Ramstein, and so on. In my opinion, there are two issues that concern African leaders: mineral fertilizers and grain. That's why they came here to convey that food security is suffering, and therefore, we need to make some kind of peace," commented the director of the Center for Military Legal Studies.
Musiienko noted that Putin is using this visit to show that he is not in international isolation, even the president of Algeria called him "the greatest leader and friend of civilization."
"And Putin also decided to attack Kyiv with Kinzhals on this day to humiliate African nations. By the way, an interesting point is that logically, African leaders should not have gone to Russia, because it now represents the center of neo-imperialism (in the historical context, it characterizes the period of colonial expansion of European states - ed.) And these African countries and peoples have always fought against this. The result is a schizophrenic construct when African leaders call for Russia to be heard and to legitimize colonialism in one form or another. To call for such decisions at the moment of the Ukrainian counteroffensive is to put the cart before the horse, which is absolutely illogical," Musiienko summarized.
Shelling of Kyiv during the visit of the South African delegation
On June 16, President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Ukraine. He wanted to present his "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine.
The African delegation began its visit to Ukraine with a visit to Bucha, Kyiv region, to see firsthand the consequences of the atrocities committed by the Russian occupying forces at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
On the morning of June 16, Russian forces attacked the capital and the Kyiv region with Kalibr missiles launched from the Black Sea, ballistic missiles and drones.
The President of South Africa had to take shelter due to the missile attack on Kyiv, Reuters reported.
The air defense forces destroyed 6 ballistic missiles, 6 Kalibr missiles and 2 UAVs. The attack damaged private houses and caused fires in the region. Seven people were also injured.
