"Indeed, the marines of the Russian Pacific Fleet suffered huge losses near Vuhledar. Such losses of the Russian forces were caused, of course, by the traditional inept command of the Russian army. They tried to attack Vuhledar with columns of armored vehicles. However, these areas have long been mined and shelled by our artillery," explained Kuzan.
The expert emphasized that the enemy will not be able to get into the rear area of the Donetsk grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"Russian forces near Vuhledar abandoned their equipment and fled. There are a lot of captured soldiers. However, it's too early to talk about the destruction of the units that attacked Vuhledar. Because the Russian forces often replenish their losses with mobilized troops. The purpose of their attack on Vuhledar is quite clear. They are trying to capture Vuhledar and get to the rear area of Ukrainian troops grouping in Donetsk region. However, all these Russian attempts will be fruitless," he added.
On February 12, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War claimed that reports of tactical failures of Russian troops around Vuhledar further weakened Russians' faith in their ability to launch a large-scale offensive.
