Property of Russian oligarch worth almost UAH 2 billion seized in Ukraine
Ukraine’s State Security Service (SBU) seizes from underground warehouses over 160,000 tons of Ukrainian iron ore worth almost UAH 2 billion, which belonged to a Russian oligarch
This is reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
Law enforcers found underground Russian warehouses on the territory of several seaports with more than 160,000 tons of Ukrainian iron ore, a total value of which amounted to almost UAH 2 billion.
The discovered minerals belong to Alisher Usmanov’s company. He is a Russian oligarch, a member of the inner circle of the Kremlin's top military and political leadership, and has been sanctioned by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the United States and the European Union after February 24.
"Representatives of the aggressor country tried to illegally transport the hidden raw materials by sea to the territory of Russia. After that, the minerals were planned to be provided to the metallurgical industry and the military-industrial complex of Russia to meet the needs of Russian occupation groups," the SBU stated, having found out and prevented the plan from being implemented.
Currently, the property has been seized, the issue of transferring it to the National Agency for finding, tracing and management of assets derived from corruption and other crimes (ARMA) is being considered.
In March, the UK government imposed sanctions against 7 Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich, Oleg Deripaska and Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller.
In early October, the US Supreme Court rejected the appeal of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska to lift the sanctions, which were signed by President Barack Obama in 2014.
In mid-October, Deripaska was placed under sanctions in Ukraine by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council.
After criticizing the war, Deripaska was deprived of a hotel in Sochi with a marina (yacht parking), on the construction of which he spent USD 1 billion.
