Prigozhin competes with other PMCs and conducts campaigns to discredit them — ISW
The owner of Wagner private military company Yevgeny Prigozhin launched an information operation to undermine trust in the state-owned Russian PMCs
This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War.
Analysts note that Prigozhin visited the positions of the "Potok" and "Alexander Nevsky" battalions, called them "micro-PMC" and criticized their poor condition. The Potok battalion is one of the three volunteer units of the Russian Gazprom and is subordinate to the Redut PMC of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Prigozhin stated that these units were to cover Wagner's flanks and asked how they could do this without proper supplies and weapons.
"Prigozhin also criticized the general proliferation of such PMCs, which likely suggests that Prigozhin views these new entities as Wagner’s competition," the ISW analysts wrote.
Also, sources related to Wagner claimed that on April 24, the forces of Prigozhin's militants tasked Potok to defend the newly captured positions, but they withdrew from there, which enabled the Armed Forces of Ukraine to regain the territories.
After that, Potok personnel published a video criticizing the management of Gazprom and Redut PMC for not providing them with the necessary weapons. They also complained about the Wagner fighters, who forbade them to leave their positions.
"The milbloggers’ and Prigozhin’s reports indicate that Wagner has authority over Russian MoD-owned entities, which in turn indicates that Prigozhin has regained some favor with the Kremlin," the analysts write.
