President's Office explains why martial law is extended for 90 days, claims it impossible to liberate all Ukrainian territories within a month

The Ukrainian President's representative in the Constitutional Court Phedir Venislavsky explained why martial law is being extended for a further 3 months

The Servant of People political party shared the statement on their official website.

Phedir Venislavsky said that Zelensky proposed to extend martial law for 3 months since any offensive needs more time than defense.

"From February 24 we have extended martial law twice. Now we realize that the Russian forces have focused on building fortifications in areas they temporarily control. Switching to offense is much more complex than defense. So we realize that we are unlikely to liberate the entire territory of Ukraine within the next month," says Venislavsky.

There is the legal aspect of this decision, because during the imposition of martial law Ukraine shall inform the UN on the limitation of constitutional rights and freedoms that are implemented in military terms.

"We extended it twice and each time our diplomats appealed to the UN and explained what restrictions would take place. Not to repeat this procedure every month, we decided to extend martial law for 3 months. If we manage to liberate Ukraine earlier, we simply cancel it," said the deputy.
