President of South Africa announces African peace initiative to end war in Ukraine
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa says that African countries have proposed a peace initiative to help end the war between Russia and Ukraine
Bloomberg reported the information.
A delegation of African heads of state plans to visit Moscow and Kyiv to present their "peace plan," Ramaphosa said at a joint media briefing with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Cape Town on Tuesday.
"This peace mission will contribute to the various other missions to bring a close to this conflict," Ramaphosa said.
He claims to have spoken to Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy on behalf of African countries. According to him, they agreed to accept the mission of African leaders on the peace initiative.
The initiative group, in addition to South Africa, includes Egypt, Zambia, the Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Uganda.
According to the politician, it can influence Russia given the close relations of the countries united in the BRICS group. Ramaphosa claims that Brussels, London and Washington are aware of the "peace plan" of African countries.
