President of Latvia. Helping Ukraine is only way to protect Europe

Latvian President Egils Levits claimed that supporting Kyiv is the only way to protect Europe. He welcomed the decision to provide Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine's defenders

This is stated in an interview with the President of Latvia for DW.

Answering the question of whether Europe has crossed the "red lines" by agreeing to supply combat tanks to Ukraine, the Latvian politician noted that Russia was the first to do so, having launched a full-scale invasion.

"All of us in Europe are now thinking more about our defense because we have an aggressive neighbor. And since we have an aggressive neighbor, we are naturally building up our defense capabilities,” Levits said. “It is not NATO, not Europe, not Germany and Latvia that are the source of the war, but Russia. And, of course, we are defending ourselves. It is our duty to defend our states," the Latvian president reminded.

Mr. Levits also said that supporting Kyiv is the only way to protect Europe. He also said that the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks was the right decision because "Europe's security is under threat."
