Portugal will undertake the reconstruction of part of the 70 schools that Russian forces destroyed in the Zhytomyr region.
Euraktiv reported the news.
Portugal will join the restoration of schools in the Zhytomyr region destroyed by Russian shelling. Currently, how many schools from the affected 70 in this field the Portuguese will take over is still being determined in Portugal.
According to the Minister of Education, Joao Costa, the preparatory phase of the reconstruction of these schools "has already begun" within the framework of a joint project of the Portuguese government and the Ministry of Education with the Ukrainian authorities." This project should ensure "a balance between the relatively quick recovery that Ukraine wants and the principles of quality and safety of the buildings themselves".
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Portugal has granted temporary residence permits to 46,181 Ukrainians, 28% of which were granted to minors (about 13,000 children). During this time, 4,700 students from Ukraine were enrolled in Portuguese schools.
