Poroshenko: Ukraine's membership in NATO is a matter of life and death, and bargaining with Russia is unacceptable
Petro Poroshenko speaking from the rostrum of the parliament called on the authorities to stop discussions about Ukraine's membership in NATO. He recalled that Euro-Atlantic integration is supported by the vast majority of Ukrainians, and NATO membership itself and a strong army are guarantors of the security of our state.
This was reported by the press service of the "European Solidarity" party.
"Three years ago on February 18, 2019, I signed amendments to the Constitution, which, with the desire of Ukrainians to join the EU and NATO, gave strength to the Basic Law. Yesterday the results of a sociological survey were published, which recorded record support for joining the North Atlantic Alliance. "For" are almost two-thirds of Ukrainians. It's a smart reaction of Ukrainians to threats from Russia and its evil Fuhrer", Poroshenko said.
“Ambassador Prystaiko’s statement about Ukraine’s readiness to concede to Russia on the issue of joining NATO is blatantly dissonant with public opinion. The fact that he is not just an ambassador to the UK lends weight to the diplomat’s words. This is a former foreign minister and former deputy prime minister specifically for European and Euro-Atlantic integration. If it was Prystaiko's initiative, he would immediately get hit on the lips by President Zelensky. So Zelensky's week-long silence gives reason to suspect that the test ball for Prystaiko was inflated on Bankova Street'', he noted.
"Powerfully involves bargaining with Russia on an issue that for us is a matter of life and death. The only guarantee of security is NATO membership and nothing more. We understand that the path to the Alliance is long and must strengthen our army", Poroshenko summed up.
