Explaining why Poland has not signed the agreement, Polish diplomats assure that the reason behind it is the necessity of completing internal procedures in the country. However, they do not specify exactly what procedures.
The intention of other countries to join the agreement "after the completion of national procedures" is stated in a statement by the European Defense Agency, which reveals the details of the project.
Polish diplomats claim that Poland will sign the document in the coming days.
They assure that Poland will be one of the 3 main beneficiaries of the EU's joint procurement. For the country, this is an opportunity to receive contracts, support, and increase production capacity, because - along with France and Germany - Poland is one of the largest producers of ammunition that Ukraine needs.
In the coming days, EU Commissioner for Industry Thierry Breton is reported to visit the Dezamet plant, which produces 155 mm ammunition in Nowa Dęba.
The project, signed by 18 countries, opens up 2 paths for countries: a 2-year fast-track procedure for 155 mm artillery shells and a 7-year project to procure various types of ammunition.
As of today, the agreement has been signed by Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, and Norway.
On March 20, most EU countries approved a plan to supply ammunition to Ukraine. However, there has been no official announcement yet.
