Russia’s threats voiced by Naryshkin against Poland, Baltic States are real, says analyst
Editor-in-chief of the Polish-Ukrainian portal PolUkr.Net and chairman of the Poland-Ukraine Research Centre Dariusz Materniak stated that Poland and the Baltic states are fully aware of the threat of aggression from Russia
He said this during a broadcast on the Espreso TV channel.
“Of course, these threats must be taken very seriously, and we are trying to do exactly that—I mean Poland and the Baltic countries. It’s not just about Naryshkin’s statement in Minsk a few days ago, but about a threat that has existed at least since 2022—and in reality, even earlier. We understand that this threat is absolutely real,” Materniak emphasized.
According to the editor-in-chief of PolUkr.Net, nearly 20 years have passed since late Polish President Lech Kaczyński, during his speech in Tbilisi when Russian aggression began there, warned that after Georgia would come Ukraine, then the Baltic states, and possibly Poland. Today, we are seeing that this scenario, unfortunately, is coming true. Russia’s plans are being implemented in relation to Ukraine, and there is every reason to believe they could extend to the Baltic countries and Poland as well. In Poland, this is clearly understood, and there are efforts to prepare.
“There is currently ongoing hybrid aggression by Russia and Belarus against Poland, Lithuania, and other Baltic countries. I’m referring primarily to the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border: the pressure from the flow of illegal migrants from Belarus and Russia is growing.
Another important point to pay special attention to this year is the ‘Zapad-2025’ military exercises scheduled for September. This is always an extremely important event in terms of assessing the intentions of the Russian Federation and the level of military threat to our region,” noted Materniak.
- On April 5, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported an escalation at the Polish-Belarusian border, noting that illegal migrants are throwing stones and branches, and using angle grinders to try to breach the barrier.
