Poland proposes new EU sanctions against Russia, targeting diamond and liquefied gas imports

Poland has presented a proposal in Brussels for the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which includes a ban on imports of diamonds and liquefied natural gas from Russia

PAP reported the information, citing sources in the EU.

Warsaw's proposal includes a ban on the import of diamonds from Russia, further restrictions in the service sector, including a ban on the provision of information and communication technologies to Russian entities, as well as the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia.

In addition, Poland believes that the package of "mini-sanctions" against Belarus adopted in July 2023 is not sufficient protection against circumvention of restrictions against Russia.

In this context, Warsaw believes that the EU needs to urgently adopt a new package of sanctions against Belarus as well, adjusting sanctions against Moscow and Minsk. According to Poland, the current lack of coordination creates a systemic gap, making Belarus a center for circumventing EU sanctions against Russia.
