Poland plans to deploy tanks near Kaliningrad border
Polish defense minister Mariusz Błaszczak claims the country will station Korean K2 tanks in military units near Russia’s Kaliningrad
This is reported by Polska Zbrojna.
The Polish Army signed a contract to purchase South Korean K2 tanks in July 2022. On December 9, the first pieces of equipment were transferred to the 20th Mechanized Brigade.
"The first unit equipped with K2 tanks was the 20th mechanized brigade. The soldiers are well prepared to defend Poland. It is confirmed by their daily service on the border of Poland with Belarus and the Russian Kaliningrad region," said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.
He added that a K2 tanks' battalion would be stationed in Masuria, and another unit would be created in Ostroda. There, the process of recreating the unit that was liquidated in 2011 will soon begin. It was located near the border with Russia, namely the Kaliningrad region.
