Poland and Lithuania to propose nuclear restrictions for Russia in new EU sanctions

Poland and Lithuania want the European Union to impose restrictions on Russia's nuclear sector as part of new sanctions against Moscow and Minsk for the war in Ukraine

This is reported by Reuters with reference to the statement of an anonymous senior official.

"It is more and more difficult to get the necessary unanimity in the EU for more sanctions. Nonetheless, we will propose an ambitious new package," he said.

Two senior diplomats from Poland and Lithuania told Reuters that the 10th package of EU sanctions against Russia should be ready by February 24. According to them, Poland and Lithuania want nuclear restrictions in the new EU sanctions against Russia, probably including sanctions against Rosatom.

The diplomats also said they would also like new sanctions against Russia's ally Belarus, where they say there are loopholes that have allowed Moscow to circumvent European sanctions in goods trade, including furniture.
