The Times reports this with reference to NATO intelligence.

The outlet did not specify whether the figures are only for the dead or also include the wounded.

The Times writes that the statistics were announced during a discussion of new supplies to the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Wednesday, February 15. The new weapons should allow Kyiv to push back Russia in the next three months.

During the discussion, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin noted that Russian ground forces are now "severely thinned out and demoralized."

"Russia continues to send a lot of additional resources into the fight. Most of the people are poorly trained and poorly equipped, and because of that, Russia is suffering heavy losses," Austin said.

  • Western analysts say that the Russian army could have lost up to 200,000 soldiers killed and wounded. The New York Times wrote about this in early February.

  • The Ukrainian General Staff reports that as of February 16, the Russian army's losses amounted to more than 140,000 killed.
