At least 20 killed, 40 hospitalized in double Russian missile attack on Odesa
On March 15, a Russian missile strike wrecked civilian infrastructure in the Ukrainian port city of Odesa. A medic and a rescuer who came to help after the first explosion are among the 20 people killed, 75 people were injured
The latest information on the aftermath of the attack on the morning of March 16 was provided by the Odesa Regional Military Administration.
According to the regional governor, Oleh Kiper, as of 09:00, 40 people are being treated in hospitals, including 9 wounded in serious condition.
"Today, the city and the region are mourning for the 20 victims of the most massive Russian terrorist attack on Odesa," Kiper reminded.
As of 10:05 p.m. on March 16, the total number of casualties was 75, including 20 people killed (including a medic and a rescuer).
55 people were treated in medical institutions. 42 people are receiving inpatient treatment, 9 are in serious condition.
According to Kiper, the missile attack also damaged gas and electricity supply lines in Odesa. As of 22:00, electricity supply was restored to 531 households. Only 4 households are still without power, and the repairs will be carried out March 16.
In the evening, 800 households in Odesa were left without gas supply. The planned restoration period is March 16 by the end of the day. Emergency and utility services continue to work at the scene.
Zelenskyy reacts to the attack on Odesa
"Rescue operations in Odesa are still ongoing following another Russian missile strike. A very heinous strike by these bastards. Two missiles were fired, with the second hitting rescuers and medics who had arrived at the scene of the first strike. Emergency medics and State Emergency Service rescuers have been injured and killed. My condolences to all of their close ones. Dozens of people were injured," the statement reads.
The President instructed the regional authorities to fully support all the victims and said that the Armed Forces "will definitely do everything to make the Russian murderers feel our just reaction."
World reacts to attack on Odesa
Moldovan President Maia Sandu emphasized on social media platform X that Russia's war against Ukraine has no bounds.
While Guy Verhofstadt, a member of the European Parliament from Belgium and the country’s former Prime Minister, called on the world to give Ukraine everything the country needs to protect itself.
