Diplomat, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2007–2009), and head of the Center for Russian Studies, Volodymyr Ohryzko, believes the world will return to more normal forms of cooperation after the upcoming U.S. congressional elections

He shared this view during a broadcast on Espreso TV.

“Despite apocalyptic, catastrophic scenarios, I believe things aren’t as dire or irreversible as they may seem. In a year and a half, there will be midterm elections in the U.S. Congress. It seems to me that after the first two years of Trump’s presidency, the situation on Capitol Hill will change dramatically. I think we simply need to count down how much time is left until the next reset of Congress and the Senate. After that, the world will return to more or less normal and familiar forms of cooperation,” he said.

Ohryzko also noted that while the United States has a powerful economy and military, it is not the only global player.

“Eventually, even if we consider that America is the most powerful economic and military state in the world, it is still just one of many—it is not the only one, and it cannot dictate its will to the entire world. In the end, Mr. Tusk was right when he said: ‘Why should we—Europe, with a population of 550 million—be afraid of those with 350 million, or defend ourselves from those with 140 million?’ So there’s something to think about here,” the diplomat added.

U.S. tariffs on imports from all countries

On April 2, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced the introduction of tariffs of at least 10% on nearly all goods imported into the United States. The tariffs are set to take effect on April 9.

Within just 24 hours of the announcement, the combined net worth of the world’s 500 richest people dropped by $208 billion. Billionaire Elon Musk’s fortune, in particular, fell below $300 billion for the first time since November.
