This was stated by Russian leader's assistant for foreign policy issues, former Russian ambassador to the U.S. Yuri Ushakov, as reported by Interfax.

When asked by journalists whether Witkoff's visit to Moscow was expected this week, Ushakov replied: "We are waiting."

  • On April 11, U.S. special representative Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia. In St. Petersburg, he held a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that lasted more than 4 hours. Meanwhile, the White House described it as "a step toward a ceasefire" in Ukraine.
  • Later, Witkoff stated that the topic of "five territories" was being discussed during negotiations on settling the war in Ukraine.
