Ukraine's foreign minister meets with Hungary's counterpart to discuss victory plan
On Monday, September 30, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is on a working visit to Hungary, where he held talks with his counterpart, Peter Szijjártó.
During the meeting, Sybiha presented Ukraine's victory plan to Szijjártó, Ukrinform reports.
"The primary issue we discussed today was Russia's unprovoked full-scale war against Ukraine and ways to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. We are grateful to Hungary for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, as well as for punishing Russia for the atrocities committed in Ukraine, including the crime of aggression," the Ukrainian minister said at a press conference in Budapest following the talks.
He briefed his Hungarian counterpart on the situation at the frontline, presented Ukraine's victory plan, and expressed hope that Hungary would continue to support Ukrainian initiatives and facilitate their speedy implementation.
Sybiha emphasized that Kyiv also welcomes Hungary's participation in reconstruction projects, support for Ukrainians in Hungary, training of military medics, and Budapest's accession to the Mine Action Coalition.
Another topic discussed by the diplomats was the situation of national minorities in Ukraine.
According to Sybiha, Budapest noted "positive dynamics" regarding national minorities.
According to European Pravda, Sybiha welcomed the opening of the first bilingual Ukrainian-Hungarian school for Ukrainian children in Hungary. He stressed that Ukraine reaffirms its bilateral and international commitments to ensure the rights of people belonging to the Hungarian national community.
"Mr. Minister and I noted the positive dynamics in resolving this issue (of national minorities) and agreed to further cooperate to reach an understanding on all sensitive matters," the Ukrainian diplomat said.
The ministers' one-on-one talks lasted about an hour.
Earlier, the minister's visit was announced on the website of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was noted that the key topics of the ministers' talks in Budapest would include the development of good neighborly relations, the implementation of joint projects - particularly in the areas of economy, border infrastructure, and the protection of the rights of national minorities.
In addition, Sybiha and Szijjártó were set to discuss progress towards Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO, as well as the Peace Formula as a way to achieve a just end to the war with Russia.
"The visit to Hungary is a continuation of the first regional tour of the newly appointed Foreign Minister, which aims to establish a pragmatic and predictable policy of good neighbourliness and advancement towards the strategic goal of Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO," the ministry added.
