Belarus tries 5 persons on terror charges 'under Ukraine's lead'
Five Belarusians are on trial in Minsk on charges of preparing a terrorist attack on 9 May 2023, allegedly "under the leadership of Ukraine”
This was reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty.
On July 26, the Minsk City Court began a closed trial in the case of Valery Vodzin, Andrei Grigoriev, Anna Savochkina, Tatiana Rusak and Viktoria Vovchak.
They are accused of high treason, terrorism, participation in a military conflict abroad or recruitment for such activities, illegal use of explosives and ammunition, creation of an extremist group and illegal transportation of explosives.
If found guilty, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison. It is noted that the court hearing was closed, so it is not known whether the defendants pleaded guilty.
It should be noted that in 2023, Belarusian security forces claimed to have prevented terrorist attacks by unknown special services on 9 May.
- On Monday, July 22, a Russian court found Radio Liberty journalist Alsu Kurmasheva guilty of spreading "fakes about the Russian army" and sentenced her to 6.5 years in prison.
