Memorial, Ukraine's largest memory platform with over 9,500 stories of fallen Ukrainian defenders and civilians killed by Russia, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support its work

The Memorial Platform, a key initiative documenting the stories of Ukrainians killed by Russian military actions, is at risk due to funding cuts.

The platform operates thanks to donations, and without support, some of the Memorial's activities may stop. To continue its work, the team launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe.

"Russian military actions kill Ukrainians every day — on the battlefield, along the front lines, and in peaceful cities. These numbers reflect only the officially confirmed losses: more than 12,000 civilians, including 592 children, have been killed, and over 46,000 Ukrainian defenders have given their lives. But people are not just numbers. They are lives, stories, and memories that must not be forgotten," the Memorial's team said.

The platform's work includes collecting and publishing stories of the fallen through documentary projects, digital archives, and various memorial initiatives. Their efforts have led to collaboration with international organizations, including Human Rights Watch and the Clooney Foundation, as well as providing crucial data for global reports on war crimes.

The team has also formed close ties with families of the deceased, media outlets, civil society organizations, and museums across Ukraine. However, the current funding challenges are threatening the continuation of their work. Without adequate financial support, the vital task of remembering and honoring the victims becomes increasingly difficult.

Memorial platform's impact and call for support

The Memorial platform has already:

  • shared the stories of over 9,500 servicemen and civilians,
  • contributed over 230 articles to national and international media,
  • helped organize 20 exhibitions in 18 countries.

They have also produced over 18 documentary films and broadcasted hundreds of stories on interactive screens in public spaces.

Despite these achievements, the platform is in urgent need of funds to continue its work. Donations made through the GoFundMe campaign administered by Every Casualty Counts will help sustain the platform, allowing them to document new victims, expand their memorial projects, and provide justice through remembrance.

The platform's mission goes beyond remembering the past—it is about shaping the future and preventing further atrocities.

"If we fail to preserve their names and stories, we risk allowing history to repeat itself. Honoring memory is an act of resistance, a step toward justice, and a commitment to ensuring that “Never Again” is more than just words. Your support helps ensure that justice is pursued. Ukraine demands accountability from Russia, the aggressor state, for its war crimes and atrocities," the statement said.
