Iranian President Raisi dies in helicopter crash, officials confirm
On May 19, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed. Officials confirmed the deaths of all passengers
This is reported by IRNA.
“Local officials present at the crash site have confirmed the martyrdom of Raisi and his accompanying team,” the publication says.
His death was also confirmed by a senior Iranian official in a comment to Reuters from the scene.
"President Raisi, the foreign minister and all the passengers in the helicopter were killed in the crash," he said.
Later, Raisi's death was confirmed in a statement by Vice President Mohsen Mansouri on social media and state television.
"According to the information received, President Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi of Sajdah and his delegation were killed," the semi-state Mehr news agency said.
The incident occurred near Jolfa, a city on the border with Azerbaijan. This was reported by AR with reference to Iranian state television.
According to state television, rescuers were prevented from reaching the scene by poor weather conditions in the area. Heavy rain with little wind was reported.
Raisi was in Azerbaijan on Sunday morning for the inauguration of the dam with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The dam is the third to be built by both countries on the Araz River.
In addition, the report noted that Iran flies to other countries on various helicopters, but international sanctions make it difficult to obtain spare parts for them.
