Russian troops damage every seventh Ukrainian school
Due to Russian aggression, one in seven schools in Ukraine has been damaged, and 400 educational institutions have been completely destroyed
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Yevhen Kudriavets at the Ukraine. Year 2024 forum, Ukrinform reports.
"Every seventh school in Ukraine today is damaged as a result of a full-scale invasion. More than 3,500 educational institutions have suffered some kind of damage, almost 400 have been completely destroyed," he said.
Kudriavets added that according to the latest World Bank estimates, the state needs almost $14 billion to rebuild the educational infrastructure. The deputy minister stressed that some of the damaged educational institutions cannot be restored.
According to him, the destruction of educational infrastructure affects, among other things, the quality of education and socialisation of children.
"Almost a million children are studying remotely, when they cannot have personal communication and socialisation with their friends and teachers. One million children have access to a mixed form of education. This means that they cannot have a full-time live education, but they have the opportunity to attend school occasionally," Kudriavets said.
- As of January 24, the Russian forces have completely destroyed at least 200 schools and damaged more than 1,600 institutions.
