The extension of the “transport visa-free” regime was supported by 488 MEPs, with 137 against and 34 abstaining.
The agreement was originally signed in June 2022 and was set to expire in 2024. The European Parliament extended its validity until approval by both the European Parliament and the EU Council.
Under the new rules, drivers must have documents allowing international transport. They also need to display a sticker on their windshield confirming compliance with the agreement’s conditions.
The agreement includes a special mechanism that allows it to be suspended in certain regions if serious violations occur in the local road transport market.
