Ahead of his summit with Vladimir Putin, the U.S. president said there was a high likelihood of holding a second meeting.

He noted that if Friday’s meeting in Alaska goes well, he would like to organize trilateral talks between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia.

“If the first one goes well, I would like to almost immediately organize a second one — between Putin, Zelenskyy, and myself, if they want me to be present,” Trump said.

Earlier on Aug. 13, CBS News reported, citing two sources familiar with the negotiations, that a trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Vladimir Putin could be held at the end of next week.

According to the sources, the United States is already working to find a venue for the trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Putin.

Background

Donald Trump earlier announced he would meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, August 15.

On August 12, Zelenskyy said the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska could only be significant for bilateral relations between their countries — nothing about Ukraine could be decided without Ukraine.

On August 13, Trump, Zelenskyy, and EU leaders held online talks in Berlin.

Following the conversation, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Ukraine was ready for negotiations and discussion of territorial issues, but ruled out legal recognition of territories occupied by Russia.
