U.S. opposes inviting Zelenskyy to NATO summit in June - media
The United States objects to inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the NATO summit in The Hague in June
This was reported to the Italian agency ANSA by diplomatic sources.
Currently, only four Asian partners have been invited to the summit: Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
"Almost all allies expressed their surprise to Washington regarding this matter," the source clarified.
This issue, among others, may be raised during the informal meeting of foreign ministers in Antalya, which starts this evening. Organizing the summit in The Hague is one of the agenda points, although no decisions are expected since the meeting will be held in an informal format.
The NATO summit is scheduled for June 24-26 in the Netherlands. ANSA notes that the Netherlands aims to minimize the agenda of the summit in The Hague to reduce potential disagreements with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The event will include a dinner hosted by the royal family for the leaders, and one session dedicated to increasing military spending and finalizing goals for the Alliance's capabilities.
