New Zealand imposes sanctions against 23 Russians and organizations that support war in Ukraine
New Zealand introduced sanctions against 23 Russians and companies that support the invasion of Ukraine, in particular the Minister of Digital Development, the CEO of the First Channel, and the Strategic Culture Fund.
Nanaia Mahuta, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, reports.
On December 12, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced new round of sanctions against those behind disinformation campaigns and those who support Putin's military actions.
"Putin continues to use network of media agencies and influential commentators as part of his propaganda machine to spread false information and lies as part of his narrative about invasion of Ukraine," Makhuta said.
Sanctions extend to disinformation entities already sanctioned in May. Among them are representatives of mass media and information agencies.
In particular, the Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, Maksut Shadayev, the General Director of the First Channel, Kostyantyn Ernst, as well as InfoRos, the Southern Front, and the Strategic Culture Fund were sanctioned.
New Zealand's Foreign Minister emphasized that those sanctioned have an impact on the public's perception of Russia's illegal and unprovoked war: "They create a fog of disinformation that serves Putin's aggression against the territorial sovereignty of Ukraine."
