New American Speaker Mike Johnson will have to prove himself - diplomat
Pavlo Klimkin, diplomat and former Ukraine's Foreign Minister, says that the first words of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson regarding Ukraine are not bad at all, and he is very focused on containing China
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
"I believe that Mike Johnson, who has become the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, will prove himself, I think, in a positive way for us. He is a very sincere person in his own way and sincerely believes in his version of conservative values. He's a very religious man, I don't know him personally, but my friends and associates in the Republican Party who know him all say that he is respected for his sincerity, his consistency, and for always being committed to his vision. And when he says: 'I don't accept this, but we are a free country, and that's the way it should be,' you have to admit that this deserves respect," the diplomat said.
In his opinion, Johnson's first words on Ukraine are not bad at all. In addition, the new speaker is very focused on containing China, and they are already saying that if Putin wins, it will strengthen China. And there are ideological arguments here in a good sense, but there are also absolutely tough, rational, and political ones.
"I think we have a great space to communicate with him. He has a lot of respect among his colleagues for that kind of conservative consistency and sincerity. It will be easier for him to push a lot of things because he has the support of both Trump and key Republican figures. Johnson has so far been able to unite the different wings and camps among the Republicans, where there is a kind of fermentation. So, in fact, I would give him the opportunity to prove himself, including in relation to us. And I am not at all negative," Pavlo Klimkin summarized.
