NATO countries have no choice, Ukraine's accession should be completed in the coming years - diplomat Ohryzko

Former Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Ohryzko said this on Espreso TV. 

"Regarding the handing over of the NATO membership application to Mr. Stoltenberg. This is a very important political step. I support the fact that this step has been taken," Ohryzko said.

In his opinion, it was necessary to apply together with Finland and Sweden.

"Whether someone in NATO wants to or not - now in the new political conditions, NATO countries will have to make this decision, because they really have no other choice. Despite the position of the president of Bulgaria or the prime minister of Hungary, or several other countries that continue to doubt something, we have a full moral right to raise this question. Yes, it's not tomorrow, but not in five years," Ohryzko believes.

He added that the term of admission will be completely achievable.

"We need to do something both in the military-technical sphere and in the political sphere - the rule of law has not gone anywhere from us and it must finally be completed. But it is not years, it is not the perspective that was talked about - it is the next couple of years, when this topic has finally and positively concluded for Ukraine," he concluded.
