Monument to Pushkin is dismantled in Kharkiv

The Kharkiv City Council has announced the dismantling of the monument to the celebrated Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. It will be kept in a storage

The Telegram message says that this monument should be preserved, and its future will be democratically decided by the Kharkiv residents after Ukraine's victory.

“Its further fate - whether it will be kept in a museum or in another place in the cultural and historical space of Kharkiv - will be decided by the Kharkiv residents after the victory of Ukraine,” the city council said.

It is also noted that Kharkiv is one of the cities most affected by the aggression of the Russian Federation, so the city council understands the feelings of some locals who do not want to see Russian toponyms in their city. The city authorities propose to rearrange the cultural and historical environment of the city and have already proposed options:

“As one of the options, Pushkin's bust can become part of the exposition dedicated to the Ukrainian national liberation movement, because more than a hundred years ago, even before the revolution of 1917, activists of this movement were going to demolish it,” the Kharkiv City Council wrote.
