Moldova is vulnerable to Russia's attacks and this can weaken Ukraine’s resilience - Sandu
Moldova is vulnerable to Russia's hybrid attacks, which could undermine the stability of Ukraine and the stability of Europe
The President of the country, Maia Sandu, wrote about this in the Politico column.
According to her, due to Russia's war against Ukraine, Moldova faces "serious costs and increased risks". She noted that the shelling of Ukraine's critical infrastructure and Russia's halving of gas exports deprived the country of its former sources of energy.
Sandu said that Russian proxies and criminal groups in Moldova are using the energy crisis to incite discontent and provoke political upheaval.
"Using the entire spectrum of hybrid threats — including fake bomb alerts, cyberattacks, disinformation, calls for social unrest and unconcealed bribery — they are working to destabilize the government, erode our democracy and jeopardize Moldova’s contribution to Europe’s wider security," she wrote.
The President of Moldova believes that the country's vulnerability can weaken Ukraine's resilience and undermine stability in Europe.
"Just as Russia mustn’t be allowed to win in Ukraine, its hybrid techniques mustn’t be allowed to succeed in Moldova. We will do our part to defend European values despite the privations imposed on us. The price is heavy, and we are prepared to carry the burden. But we cannot do it alone," Sandu summed up.
