Missiles for HIMARS and Patriot, Avenger and Stinger systems: US announces new military aid package to Ukraine
On Wednesday, May 31, the United States officially announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which includes missiles for air defense systems and multiple launch rocket systems.
The details were announced at the briefing by the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, John Kirby, Ukrinform reports.
The US will provide Ukraine with additional ammunition for Patriot air defense systems, which Ukraine has been using effectively, and will also supply more Avenger air defense systems and Stinger anti-aircraft systems, as stated by Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House.
He emphasized that the United States would continue to support Ukraine, highlighting the Russian attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
According to sources cited by the publication Voice of America, the new US defense aid package to Ukraine, valued at $300 million, includes missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, missiles for the HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, tank ammunition, anti-tank weapons, Zuni unguided air missiles, AIM-7 air-to-air missiles with radar guidance, as well as Avenger air defense systems and Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
The Pentagon reports that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the United States has provided military aid worth over $36.9 billion to Ukraine.
