Ukraine will benefit most from swift end to Israel-Iran conflict — international expert
In the short term, for Ukraine, the escalation and possible increase in instability in Iran could be very harmful and, on the contrary, benefit Russia
Political scientist and international expert Maksym Nesvitailov said this on Espreso TV.
"Despite the fact that we can be happy that Iran, which sold Shaheds to Russia, is now under bombardment, now these bombings do not affect the defense capability of the Russian Federation in any way at all. But what this has an impact on is the increase in oil prices," he said.
According to the expert, this is a serious problem for Ukraine, because Iran remains a major oil supplier.
"In addition to everything else, they can block the Strait of Hormuz, and then, according to economists, the cost of oil could jump to $200 per barrel. Of course, then it will fall and the situation will normalize, but how long it will last is unclear," Nesvitailov added.
He said that because of this, Russia will receive super-profits from oil - during this short period they will be able to recoup everything they lost in a year in financial terms.
"Therefore, the best option for us is for this conflict to stop as soon as possible and not lead to a critical escalation in Iran as of now. Strategically, of course, the ayatollah's regime should collapse, but in the short term, this escalation and possible increase in instability in Iran could be very harmful and actually benefit Russia," the expert summarized.
- On Saturday, June 14, a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Kovsari, said that the Iranian authorities are considering closing the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
