Defense Express reported the information.

Ukraine's military struck the 100th Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) arsenal near the town of Neya in Russia's Kostroma region, making it the fifth such strategic facility to be hit by Ukrainian forces. The depot, situated over 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, represents the most distant confirmed strike on Russian military infrastructure of this category, surpassing the previous record set by an attack on the 51st GRAU arsenal near Moscow.

According to official reports from the scene, fires broke out across the arsenal compound, triggering evacuations of the surrounding area. Video footage captured characteristic secondary explosions consistent with ammunition detonations. Local authorities ordered evacuations of residential buildings within a two-kilometer radius of the facility, underscoring the severity of the incident.

The 100th GRAU arsenal had been actively used by Russian forces, with recent high-resolution satellite imagery showing movement of munitions crates at the site prior to the strike. While the exact quantity and types of ammunition stored at the time of the attack remains unknown, military analysts estimate the facility's design capacity at approximately 150,000 tons based on its two-square-kilometer footprint. By comparison, the 51st GRAU arsenal near Moscow, which covers 3.5 square kilometers, has a projected capacity of 264,000 tons.

However, experts note that actual storage practices in Russian military facilities may deviate from design specifications, and the depot may not have been operating at full capacity at the time of the strike. The successful targeting of such a distant facility demonstrates Ukraine's expanding long-range strike capabilities and poses new challenges for Russian military logistics and ammunition supply chains supporting operations along the front lines.
