Slovak citizen fighting for Russia surrenders to Ukrainian Armed Forces
Near the town of Lyman in Donetsk region, Ukrainian soldiers captured a Slovak citizen who fought on the side of the Russian army
Slovak outlet Aktuality reports on June 3.
Video of the captured Slovak, dressed in the Russian uniform, was published by Ukrainian journalist Oleksandr Kachura.
In the video, the captive identifies himself as Jaroslav Galajčík, hailing from the Slovak Republic. According to the journalist, the Slovak was captured near the town of Lyman in the Donetsk region.
"Some of the comrades he was with didn't make it to their intended destination. He served as a medic and was tasked with evacuating the wounded. After sustaining a concussion, he headed towards our positions, only to find empty trenches. Taking cover there, a drone strike shook up the trench, prompting him to move on. Instead of returning to Russian positions, he ended up at our positions," explained Kachura.
It is currently unknown when exactly the Slovak ended up at the front. According to what he said, he had previously been in the occupied Luhansk region, where he was supposed to help load railroad cars.
According to Kachura, the Slovak does not want to return to Russia. The captive said that he would rather serve his sentence in a Slovak prison for being in a foreign army.
The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Kyiv does not yet know anything about the case of the detainee.
