Russian troops lose record number of combat vehicles in Ukraine
As of March 19, Ukrainian Armed Forces have established a new all-time record for the destruction of Russian vehicles in the combat zone
Oleksandr Kovalenko, political and military observer, analyzed the causes behind the increased destruction of Russian vehicles.
Since the onset of March, a staggering 985 vehicles have been rendered inoperable.
The previous record in this category was achieved in February, totaling 939 units. Overall, since December 2023, the consecutive monthly loss of Russian vehicles has reached its peak throughout the entire full-scale invasion.
“These rates of loss can be attributed to the unprecedented losses of specialized armored vehicles. With a scarcity of dedicated armored vehicles for offensive operations, Russian forces are forced to use non-armored vehicles, including those unsuited for combat and susceptible to incapacitation from minor damage,” the observer explained.
This stands as a primary factor behind such figures, which are anticipated to further escalate in the future, given the Russian military-industrial complex's inability to address the shortfall of armored vehicles through domestic production or reconstruction efforts, Kovalenko concluded.
