Russian forces attempt breakthrough in Kupyansk defense from two directions - Syrskyi
Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported about operations in the active combat zones within the Kharkiv and Kupyansk sectors
The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported this on June 5.
“The Russian army continues to conduct offensive actions, focusing its main efforts on the Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, Kupyansk, and Kharkiv directions. Furthermore, it is engaged in aggressive assault operations in Vovchansk and on the outskirts of Chasiv Yar with the aim of capturing and gaining control of these two settlements," Syrskyi stated.
He also noted that the Russian army is conducting offensive actions in other areas to stretch the active front lines, limit Ukrainian troops and prevent them from being redeployed to other areas of combat operations.
Due to the high intensity of hostilities and the widespread use of armored vehicles and guided aerial bombs by the occupying army, the situation remains challenging. Specifically in the Kharkiv sector, the Russian troops are focusing their main efforts and attempting to advance towards Hlyboke-Lyptsi. However, according to Syrskyi, invaders are facing substantial losses and have not achieved success.
“In Vovchansk, our main task at this stage is to hold back the enemy, inflict maximum losses on them, and gradually reclaim our territories. The situation around Kupyansk is challenging, with the Russians attempting to breach our defenses from two directions. Intense fighting persists, but our goal is to halt the enemy's advance and compel them into a defensive position," stated Syrskyi.
- On June 5, the General Staff reported that the Russian army had increased its activity in the Pokrovsk and Kupyansk directions.
