Russia probes NATO defenses with fighter jets over Estonia

In the mythology of the street thugs from which Russia's current leaders draw their inspiration, any 'assault' must be answered immediately. Ukraine reacted instantly to the February 24 invasion, without waiting for UN resolutions or 'deep concern' from the EU. The Alliance has not responded to the invasion of Poland in a week and a half, and this looks like a defeat.

Therefore, similar Russian actions will continue until NATO shows its teeth. But everyone understands that it will no longer be possible to hold on to the illusion of a peaceful and safe life indefinitely. 

"Economically, Russia can still afford a 'small war.' In terms of combat experience in modern warfare, it surpasses any European country except Ukraine."

So it is advantageous for Putin to hurry: while he himself is not too old, while his troops retain their skills, and while the economy is still holding on and has not broken under sanctions.

The indecisiveness of the 'aggressive NATO bloc' only fuels the Kremlin's confidence that it has chosen the right strategy. In this game, NATO will either begin to defend itself immediately or it will dissolve, having demonstrated its own inability to defend itself.
