The Prosecutor General explained that in order to confirm the data on the origin of the weapons used to attack Ukraine, joint systematic work of prosecutors, investigators and experts is required.
"As for North Korea, we have recently received the first evidence that the Russian army is using missiles manufactured in that country. The results of the preliminary scientific and technical examination confirm that the missile fired on January 2 at the central part of Kharkiv is a short-range missile developed by North Korea," the official said.
Kostin added that military experts from the interagency working group at the Prosecutor General's Office had the same conclusions. The experts were also at the site of the attack and made a preliminary examination and analysis of the missile parts. A comprehensive commission examination is currently underway to finally confirm this fact.
"We are also working to identify other fragments of ammunition that were found at the sites of recent attacks in Kharkiv and Odesa regions," said Kostin.
On January 4, the United States announced that it had information that North Korea had transferred a batch of ballistic missiles and launchers to Russia, which had already been used to strike Ukraine.
According to a White House spokesman, on December 30, 2023, Russian forces launched at least one North Korean ballistic missile at Ukraine.
Later, the United States reiterated that it had evidence that Russian terrorists continue to strike Ukraine with ballistic missiles produced in the DPRK.
The White House emphasizes that Russia used missiles from the DPRK to strike Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and other cities of Ukraine. This is at least the period from December 30 to January 6.
On January 10, the foreign ministers of 47 countries condemned North Korea's supply of ballistic missiles to Russia and Russia's use of them against Ukraine.
