Nord Stream launch will undermine U.S. national interests — energy expert
Energy expert Hennadii Riabtsev does not see any interest from the American side in launching the Nord Stream gas pipeline
He stated this on Espreso TV.
“I don’t see any interest from the American side in the launch or relaunch of Nord Stream—neither from the Bloombergs, nor the Lynches, nor any other investors. They can say whatever they want about supposedly considering some options, but they definitely won’t take any real action, because it would harm U.S. national interests. Let me explain why. For decades, the United States has been increasing gas production on its territory in order to sell it globally. During all these years, the U.S. has been building terminals on the Atlantic coast to liquefy this gas,” he noted.
Hennadii Riabtsev emphasized that throughout this time, the United States supported and financially stimulated the construction of relevant terminals on the European coast so that as many European countries as possible could receive American gas.
“But now someone seems to be preparing to resume or restore the supply of Russian gas, which is at least a third cheaper, to the European market. And I have a question: who, in fact, is going to pay for what the American gas community has built? And who will compensate the American extraction, transport, logistics, and other technological companies for the lost profits they won’t realize because of a hypothetical resumption of Russian gas supply?” the energy expert noted.
- On March 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is discussing with the U.S. the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe through the Nord Stream pipelines.
