Bloomberg reported the information.

“NATO countries defend themselves,” Carney emphasized. “Certainly, we will do what’s necessary in order to protect those countries.”

He said Russia’s use of aircraft and drones over European NATO members should be seen as a sign of Putin’s weakness, not strength.

“Russia’s under pressure. They’re trying what they can to shift, but they’re under economic pressure,” the Canadian premier noted. “Their military situation — they were making some progress over the course of the summer. That progress has stopped.”

Carney argued that Putin “has done nothing but miscalculate in this war.” He expected NATO to split, but the Alliance has only strengthened.

“He made the calculation that President Zelenskyy would flee. He made the calculation there would be an uprising in his favor. He has miscalculated consistently in this conflict,” Carney stressed.

The Canadian prime minister also highlighted that Ottawa is ready to support Ukraine, from supplying weapons to participating in the country’s post-war security.

  • Last week, Canadian Senator Stan Kutcher called on his government to actively help accelerate Ukraine’s EU and NATO accession, stressing that it would strengthen Europe’s overall security.
