NATO experts to audit military education in Ukraine next year
In October 2025, NATO experts are scheduled to perform an institutional audit of Ukraine's military education system. Following this, Ukraine will be able to seek certification for its professional military education courses in line with NATO standards
Ukraine's Ministry of Defense reported the information.
“Through course certification and standardization of educational programs, Ukraine will be able not only to improve the level of training of its military, but also to ensure interoperability of the Ukrainian army with NATO forces. This will open up opportunities for NATO member states to train in Ukraine,” explained Brigadier General of Justice Serhiy Melnyk, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, who oversees military education and science within the Ministry.
The Ministry's press service reported that the development of a military education system aligned with NATO standards was recently discussed during a meeting of the Defense and Security Committee at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. At the event, Volodymyr Mirnenko, Director of the Department of Military Education and Science at Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, highlighted achievements and outlined plans for transforming military education under the NATO DEEP program.
The project aims to support the development and standardization of more than 200 educational programs, including those for sergeants and officers, focusing on military planning, decision-making, and leadership.
According to the Ministry of Defense, over 1,000 trainings, internships, and other educational events have been held in Ukraine under the DEEP project. In 2024, Ukrainian military participation increased by 450%, with over 15,000 participants overall.
