A powerful fire broke out in the Russian city of Kursk on Tuesday, July 2, with thick black smoke visible from different parts of the city. Videos from eyewitnesses were published by the Russian Telegram channel Astra.
Ukrainian OSINT analysts from the CyberBoroshno Telegram channel determined that the fire was on the territory of the 3754th Central Aviation Technical Base (military unit 13830).
The first reports of a massive fire in central Kursk appeared in local public forums after 10 a.m., with Russians posting photos and videos showing black smoke rising.
The Militarnyi portal shared some of the videos.
The fire was later confirmed by the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov. He said that 60 employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and ten units of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.
Based on eyewitness videos, analysts from the CyberBoroshno Telegram channel determined that the fire broke out on the territory of the 3754th Central Aviation Technical Base (military unit 13830) at coordinates: 51.772319, 36.191305. Analysts from the Dnipro OSINT with Harbuz group assumed that the parking lot of this Russian military unit is on fire.
Local authorities have not officially reported what caused the fire and stated that there is no information about victims.
