ERR reported the information.

When asked what he thinks about the 'drone wall,' Merilo replied that this phrase should not create a false sense of security.

"It is impossible to build a wall of drones through which no drone can pass. We must take into account that some things will still get through," he said.

According to the commander, it is instead possible to create a highly effective, multi-layered air defense system.

"Some of the equipment has already been ordered and is on its way; it will be integrated very quickly, but there will never be a situation where some divine hand protects us from all troubles—regardless of which area of warfare we are talking about in the context of Estonia," he added.

Speaking about recent drone incidents that led to the closure of airports in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Munich, Merilo said that "it is possible to get rid of these small drones, and quite quickly and effectively."

But he added that the law might have to be changed first, even if it causes inconvenience to people.

"We have to accept this. If zones are created around Tallinn Airport where electronic jammers can be quickly activated, and as a result, someone's mobile phones stop working, then, to put it simply, people should not run around and complain that their rights are being violated," the commander concluded.

  • According to the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center (NKVC), late on Saturday evening, Lithuanian airspace was violated by 25 weather balloons, which are typically used by smugglers.
  • Munich Airport suspended operations for the second time in less than 24 hours on Friday evening after sightings of drones near its runways.
